"I did Sacred Place in 2000, one year before
the World Trade Center was crashed. The
idea was about black rain, falling on a stylized
representation of the World Trade Center.
I planned to call the piece Betroffener Ort /
Affected Place, a title I had borrowed from
Paul Klee. When I saw the skyscrapers
collapsing on TV, I thought God, they are
changing the meaning of my painting.
I had to rename the piece. Affected Place
suddenly was just too negative."
